Matzo Pizza (or Matzo Lasagna), the classic Matzo-Ball Soup, Matzo Brei and Chocolate Covered Caramelized Matzo Crunch.
What better way to mark Purim than a gift of an Esther Scroll from the Ottoman Empire. This decorated manuscript was donated to The Magnes Collection last week by Professor Guy Benveniste (UC Berkeley). It belonged to his family in Salonika since the early 19th century.

Yiddish Underwood Typewriter (1920s?). Supposedly Underwood hired people to reverse the carriage so it would type from right to left. The keys are in Yiddish.
When I was about ten years old, the Rabbi of our synagogue was cleaning out the basement and was going to throw this out. I immediately said that I would take it and it sat in my parents’ garage for twenty years before I rediscovered it.

January 27 marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly designated this day as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD), an annual day of commemoration to honor the victims of the Nazi era.
